The Enemy: cont'd.
A
s OWNERS WE can do much to help. There are at least three ways of
treating fleas and your vet is the best person to advise you as to
which is the most appropriate for your cat. Supermarket preparations are
a false economy; what you save in money you lose in efficiency.
1) INJECTIONS - every six months. These work by stopping fleas
breeding. You may still see fleas on the cat but they cannot reproduce. It
is important that we at Martlets know that this is your chosen method of
flea control - then we will know not to treat your cat, should we see a flea.
2) TOPICAL - sprays and spot-on products. These kill fleas within 24 hours, but must be applied
monthly to keep up to date. Packs carry stickers to put on the calendar as reminders. Some brand names
include: Frontline and Stronghold.
3) TABLETS - kill fleas within 24 hours. These are useful if your cat cannot tolerate topical
preparations. They are a relatively new control method with no known side effects. One brand name
is Capstar.
PLEASE REMEMBER after treating your cat the possible 200 fleas in the cat's bedding and carpets.
FLEA PREPARATIONS must be used all-the-year round as we live in nice warm centrally heated houses in
winter - the exact equivalent of flea heaven!!
AT MARTLETS WE try very hard to stop and eradicate fleas and really appreciate the help of our Clients
who tell us, "We treated him/her for fleas and worms a few days ago in preparation for him/her coming
into cattery ~~. Thank you.
And finally:
Oopseeidee, and That Long and Winding Road
WHY *Oopseeidee?
OOPSEEIDEE is my breeding prefix. A number of people have asked me "why?".
OOPSEEIDEE was the name I gave to my pet rabbit when I was a little girl.
"All roads lead to Rome. "
W
ELL, OK, just two roads lead to Martlets Cattery. The first is the relatively modern, and
relatively straight, Coldharbour Road that passes our new front gate. The second consists of
traces of the route of an original old road within the grounds of Martlets Cattery that once wound its
way towards the high street of the village of Upper Dicker.
"Chinese Whispers ~~ hint of a Roman origin; or should these be "Siamese Whispers?~~
