Feliway plug-in but sometimes the anxiety is too much. No matter how well it is cleaned up she wouldn't stop weeing

there so I advised that something should be placed over the spot until she hopefully forgets. This can be a plant pot,

ornament etc, my parents put a small box over and it worked like a charm!

It is better to address the problem as soon as it arises rather than letting the house become contaminated with patches

which tempt him/her to spray and allow the behaviour to become established.

Make sure the litter trays are kept very clean - some cats in multi cat households do not like to use a litter tray after

another cat has used it. Some cats are choosy about the type of litter they use, so if you find one that is acceptable -

don't change it.

My cats will not go out in the cold conservatory in the winter to use a litter tray and would rather do it in the warm -

anywhere in the warm! I consider it better to give them a litter tray in the warm rather than cleaning up continually!

As a last resort the vet may prescribe medication - but understandably will not do so unless you have tried all the

measures above.

In extreme cases sometimes a change of home is indicated, however, it is very difficult to find a new home for a cat that

has a history of spraying, even if it is likely that it will stop in the new home. When working for Oriental rescue I have

found that very often, a cat that has lost his home because of spraying does not repeat the behaviour when he is re-

homed. I have to conclude that there was something in that particular domestic situation that the cat objected to, and was

not present in the new home.
